Grilling & Desserts

Grilling & Desserts!!! What a great summertime treat. One of my favorite time of summer is going outside and smelling someone in the neighborhood grilling. I like it, even more, when it is us. And we do a lot of grilling.

grilling desserts

Although, along with the grilling is indulging in desserts. Watermelon, for instance, is a common food to have with grilling.

But, why not think outside the box. I, myself, like serving something unique, say for example, these little jewels. So Cute and yet, so easy, and better yet, SO DELICIOUS!!!

I get a ton of questions and comments when these little yummies are brought out!!!

How do you make the little Grilling Desserts buddies?

How can something so different and so unique be simple? First of all, I use a yellow cake mix, or butter cake mix. and a brownie mix. Easy peasy right?

  • Box of yellow cake mix – bake as directed on box (optional, I add some instant vanilla pudding and 3/4 C of water into the cake mix to give the cupcake a little more firmness)
  • Brownie mix – bake as directed on the box
  • Frosting – can buy white, or make your favorite frosting
  • Yellow Cake Coloring
  • Red Cake Coloring
  • Coconut
  • Green cake color
  • Strawberries
  • Corn syrup
  • Sprinkles
  • Toothpicks

  • Bake yellow cupcakes as directed on the cake mix box
  • Bake brownies as directed on the brownie box.
  • Let both cool. The cupcakes need to be cool so they will not fall apart. (I usually put them in the fridge for 30 – 40 minutes)
  • While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. Make some yellow for the mustard and make some red for the ketchup
  • Prepare the coconut by adding green cake coloring to the coconut and mixing until all the coconut is green
  • Slice the strawberries into thin slices

Now Comes The Fun Part Of Building Our Grilling Dessert Buddies!!!

  • Cut the cupcake just under “the muffin top” as this will be the top burger bun
  • The Brownie is the ‘burger’, if you have something round that is the same size as the bottom bun, you can use that. Or place the bottom bun, upside down on the brownie pan and run a knife around the ‘bun’. I use a cup or a plastic glass.
  • Place some yellow frosting ‘the mustard’ on the bottom bun. This can be piped on, or I spread it on with a table knife going slightly off the bun
  • Next, add strawberries on top of the mustard
  • Then get the brownie circle and compress it just a little so it will not be crumbly and place it on top of the strawberries
  • With the red frosting, the ketchup, pipe or spread on top of the brownie
  • Add the green coconut on top of the red frosting ‘the ketchup’
  • Place the other half of the cupcake ‘ the burger top’ on top of the coconut
  • For the sesame seeds, mix a little bit of clear corn syrup with water and brush on top of the bun
  • Add white sprinkles or whatever you prefer to the top
  • To finish it off – Get one of the fancy toothpicks and place down the middle of your unique and delicious dessert
